Apparition Hill

This is the name given to the place where Our Lady first appeared to the six visionaries in June of 1981. In Croatian, the area is called Podbrdo, a hundred metres above the hamlet of Bijakovići. The name of the hill itself is Crnica. Millions of pilgrims have climbed this hill, which consists of steep footpaths and sharp stones. The actual site where Our Lady appeared is marked by a cross embedded in rocks. Here pilgrims pause to pray and reflect on the messages given by Our Lady. At any hour of the day and night, pilgrims can be seen making their way up or down the hill, some on their hands and knees, some barefooted, going slowly while praying the rosary as they go from marker to marker which denotes each decade of the rosary.
