There is a marker on Cross Mountain, just below the Resurrection Station, indicating the spot where Fr. Slavko Barbarić died after having a heart attack.
Fr. Slavko used to lead pilgrimages up Cross Mountain every Friday, praying the Stations of the Cross as they went. That particular Friday, November 24, 2000, on the way down the mountain, he stopped, which was unusual for him. Then he sat down, blessed the pilgrims (both actions unusual for him as well), and died after praying to Our Lady.
It had been drizzling all afternoon. As Fr. Slavko died, the clouds moved away, the sun came out, and the birds began to sing.
