Parish of Medjugorje is going to celebrate Feast of St. James, patron saint of Medjugorje parish, by celebration of solemn Holy Mass at 11 a.m. in the Garden outside the church. Procession with the Statue of St. James is going to take place before Holy Mass and choir is going to sing litanies of All Saints during the time of the procession. Representatives of village Vionica are going to carry the Statue this year, and parishioners are going to prepare for this Feast with three day prayer programme that begins on Thursday, July 22nd. On the Feast of St. James there will be whole night adoration of Blessed Sacrament that takes place every 25th in the month. Adoration begins at 10 p.m. and continues until 7 a.m. of the following day.
Parish of Medjugorje was founded in 1892, and placed under the patronage of St. James, the Apostle. Only five years afterwards, with huge efforts of parishioners and priests, the first church was built. Although it was quite beautiful and spacious for that time, it was built on the unstable ground and it started sinking and cracking and it was necessary for the new church to be built. Construction of the current, new church began in 1934 and was completed in 1969. Everything was just a simple, ordinary life of small parish until the events in 1981 when this parish became centre of the whole world with millions of people that started coming here.

Bishop Lacey at Mass in Medjugorje - Homily - English Mass, St. James Church, Medjugorje
Bishop Pearse Lacey, Retired Bishop of Toronto Diocese of Canada Tuesday, October 10, 2006
When introducing himself, Bishop Lacey mentioned that he will be turning 90 years old this November 26th.
I’ve been coming here since 1987. I was very privileged then. When I came here in 1987, Mary, due to the political nonsense that’s been associated with Medjugorje, was appearing in the choir loft.
I was one of the privileged people, as was another priest, to have that moment with the experience of the visionaries. I’ve been coming ever since. This is my fifth visit. There’s so much I could say and so little time. But, I want to read a message. It’s a picture of a blessing that was sent to Fr. Jozo Zovko who was one of the Franciscan priests here who was singled out in a very special way.
I want to read it, because there is such unbelievable nonsense being written in some of our Catholic papers about Medjugorje. I wish to God that the reporters would get their facts straight. Most of them who write them haven’t even been here. In any case, there was a small group of Polish pilgrims coming from, obviously, Poland and on the way to Medjugorje, they stopped off in Rome and were able to attend the private Mass of the Holy Father. And of course, typical of the late Pope John Paul II, he invited them to breakfast. As they sat around, the discussion certainly turned to Medjugorje because he knew this was where they were going. He said to them as they were leaving, I want you to take a message, a blessing to Fr. Jozo Zovko.

Persevere with this lengthy transcript of a talk given by Fr Svetozar Kraljevic in Medjugorje. You will be greatly rewarded. Thanks to Angela Callan for writing every word by hand!
• There are a number of things I would like to share with you and I don’t know where to start. We are pilgrims, and in this pilgrimage, in this journey of life, everything is ‘fast forward’. There are many surprises and many challenges and we always wonder how we are doing in this art of living. We always address ourselves to finding the best answers, the best solutions, the best avenue to get there; to accomplish things and sometimes be good, to be victorious, to be sensible, to be useful. We answer our calling to be good human beings, to be a good worker, a good mother or father, a good friend, neighbour, brother or sister. So we always wonder and pray and think ‘how can we be the best we can be?’ And don’t we make some terrible mistakes? Someone said, “God help me to protect my friends from myself.” And that is more critical than helping protect myself from others.
